Meet Debi – Sacramento’s Trusted In-Home Dog Trainer

Over 18 years of transforming dogs and their owners across the greater Sacramento area.

Over 18 Years of Transforming Dogs and Their Owners

I have been professionally training dogs for over 18 years. In that time I have worked with hundreds of dogs — from eight-week-old puppies taking their very first steps at home to aggressive rescues that other trainers turned away. Every single one of them taught me something new, and every owner I coached reminded me why I chose this path.

My passion for dogs started in childhood. I was the kid who would sit on the floor at a party to play with the family dog while everyone else socialized. That love never faded — it just grew into a calling. Today I channel that lifelong bond with animals into a career that changes lives, both canine and human.

Whether a client is dealing with a puppy who cannot stop mouthing, a reactive dog who lunges on leash, or simply wants a well-mannered family companion, I bring the same dedication and genuine care to every session.

Trained by One of Sacramento’s Best

I did not learn dog training from a weekend seminar or a YouTube playlist. I was personally mentored by Eleanor, known throughout the Sacramento region as “The Dog Lady.” Eleanor is a master dog trainer with decades of experience, and she took me under her wing for an intensive apprenticeship that changed the way I understand dogs.

That apprenticeship included:

  • Nine months of intensive, hands-on mentoring with real dogs and real behavior challenges
  • Classroom and online coursework covering canine behavior science, learning theory, and training methodology
  • Canine CPR and first aid certification
  • Dog food nutrition coursework to help owners make informed feeding decisions
  • Health and safety training to keep every dog and owner safe during sessions
  • Veterinary assistant coursework to deepen my understanding of canine health

Eleanor’s mentorship gave me a rock-solid foundation, and I have continued building on it every year since through ongoing education, hands-on experience, and a commitment to staying current with the latest training science.

My Training Philosophy

After over 18 years of working with dogs and their families, my philosophy comes down to three core beliefs:

Training Is an Obligation, Not an Option

Every dog deserves to understand what is expected of them. An untrained dog is not a “bad” dog — they are a confused dog. Training is not a luxury; it is a responsibility that every owner takes on the moment they bring a dog home. It keeps your dog safe, strengthens your bond, and makes life better for everyone.

There Is No One-Size-Fits-All

Your dog is not like every other dog, and your family is not like every other family. A method that works wonders for one dog may fall completely flat for another. That is why I build a customized training plan for every single client based on the dog’s breed, temperament, history, and the specific goals of the owner. Cookie-cutter programs produce cookie-cutter results — and I do not do cookie-cutter.

The Owner Is the Most Important Part of the Equation

I can train your dog to be perfect during our sessions, but if you do not learn how to maintain and reinforce that training, it will not last. That is why I spend just as much time coaching you as I do training your dog. When you understand why your dog does what they do and how to communicate clearly, the results stick for life.

The Backbone of the Business – Daisy & Hal

No story of Value Dog Training is complete without Daisy and Hal. These two were the backbone of the business from the very beginning. They were my first training partners, my demonstration dogs, and my constant companions on every journey that built this company into what it is today.

Daisy and Hal taught me patience, timing, and how to read a dog in ways no textbook ever could. They helped me develop the techniques I still use with every client, and they showed countless dog owners what a well-trained, confident dog looks like in real life. Their legacy lives on in every session I teach.

What Drives Me

After all these years and all these dogs, the thing that still gets me out of bed every morning is the same thing that got me started: that moment when it clicks. Not just for the dog — for the owner.

I have watched owners go from frustrated and exhausted to confident and proud. I have seen dogs go from anxious, reactive messes to calm, well-mannered family members. I have watched families who were ready to rehome their dog completely turn things around in a matter of weeks.

Those transformations are why I do this. Every dog deserves a chance, and every owner deserves the tools to make it work. That is what Value Dog Training is all about.
